The official currency in Lithuania is the euro, replacing the Lithuanian litas in 2015. The Lithuanian litas was circulated in Lituania between 1922 and 2015.
The euro was expected to replace the litas as Lithuania’s official currency in 2007, however did not until 2015 due to inflation and economic woes.
Lithuania joined the European Union in 2004 following its exit from the Soviet Union and eventual restoration of independence in 1993.
The most commonly used bills for the euro are the 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 notes.
