Most credit and debit cards are widely accepted in Spain, with VISA and MasterCard being the most common forms of card payments. American Express and Diners are accepted less frequently.
It's recommended to bring both card and mixed denominations of cash. Most places in Spain accept card payments, which is convenient when making larger transactions and avoiding carrying large amounts of cash. However, having some cash on hand is useful for smaller purchases, tips, and in places where cards may not be accepted, such as small shops, markets, or rural areas.
